So many people quit their businesses for the wrong reasonâthey take it personally.
Itâs so easy when we launch our business for the first time to be rejected.
The problem is no one teaches you what this rejection means or how to handle it.
Or maybe youâre not new to the game of being an entrepreneur at all, but you recently offered a product (or several) you were over the moon excited aboutâŚ. only to hear crickets from what has been a receptive audience.
Belly flop.
Face plant.
Ughâfist to the stomach.
What do we do with this?
If youâre a new entrepreneur whose finally had the courage to throw your passion and dreams and heart at the world and no one signs up this could easily be enough to make you quit.
To throw everything back in the trunk of your dreams and drive away. To feel foolish and regret the beautiful courage you just brought forward in standing in front of eyes you didnât know and saying, âThis! IÂ care about this!â
You could drive away assuming that no one wants what you have.
To feel rejected by your audience and the world.
To feel abandoned by the universe (oh yes) for not having your back.
You risked and you werenât caught.
It is so easy to be thrown out of our wholeness and what we know our unique gifts are by rejection AND so important to remember that rejection doesnât mean that our gifts arenât of value, wanted or needed.
Thereâs a lot of math in business that isnât personal.
So I am here to remind youâŚ
You are not a one hit wonder.
You are not obsolete.
You should not quit it all and get a job.
Being rejected once and deciding to get a job is like going on one date from a dude on Tinder named Alfred and deciding that love is hopeless (it isnât by the way just choose an app that has more than 50 characters to be more accurate).
Did you know that sometimes women follow me for 8 years before working with me?
EIGHT YEARS.
Business is about putting marbles in the jar and building trust with people.
It takes time for people to know who you are, what you do and trust that you are a good investment for them.
Business is not a one night stand or a love affair⌠itâs a marriage.
Business is a long game.
And if youâre going to do thisâŚ.youâve got to understand how to handle rejection to make it through the normal periods of rejection that we ALL face.
Oh yes, I get rejected all the time. We all do.
We all throw spaghetti on walls with our eyes half closed and fingers and toes crossed going, âOh, I hope this works!â and sometimes it does and sometimes it doesnât.
You have to get better at understanding what the noâs mean.
So if youâve put one email and two social media posts out and ran away with your tail between your legs and got a job with your uncle because you think your product or gifts are not âwantedââŚ
I have great newsâ
Youâre not just wanted, but NEEDED by the right people.
There are people who need your unique gifts.
You just got dealt a normal dose of rejection and took it SUPER personal.
Iâd put money on the fact that you either didnât spend enough time building relationship with the people who need what you have (your customers) before throwing in the towel
Or⌠you donât know how to market.
Business is 30% having a good product and 70% marketing.
