A note from Janne Robinson

My books are my children.

I remember hearing a story where someone asked a painter how long it took her to paint the painting he was admiring.

She turned to him smiling and said, “80 years.”

My poems have required me to really live my entire life.

Living is a requirement to write anything at all worth reading.

Decades of therapy, falling in love, grief, laughter, and thousands of conversations and other lived reflections of me slowly running my tongue over my life is what allows me to pour words into poetry.

They take seconds to write and 32 years to experience and understand and to let out into the world.

I wrote the poem ‘There’s Cobwebs on her Vagina’ 6 years ago after working with a client who was moving through and releasing her sexual shame from her deeply religious upbringing.

The poem features a purity ring, a mother, a daughter and a gynecologist that goes on an eloquent rant mid check up about the oppression of not just women’s sexuality but the oppression of women’s liberation at large.

It’s one of my favorite poems I’ve written.

Charles Bukowski, who is one of my truth mentors as a poet, always named his books after one of his poems. In this time where women are finding their spines and walking tall—it only felt suiting to have my second book (and child) bare this name.

She's honest, she’s loud and she’s going to steal your heart just like the first collection.

You can order her fresh off the press here today.

I’m also having a party—because every book deserves a party.

To celebrate, we are hosting a virtual book launch event on Zoom with some of my favorite truth speaking artists, mentors and humans and you are invited to celebrate.

There will be poetry + music. Bring tea, bring wine—bring yourself.

Let’s sit together and honor truth, art and community.

See you there,

Janne
